چکیده

Though still in use today, the method of the effective shearing force to evaluate the maximum shear stress in variable depth beams does not stand close scrutiny. It can lead to overestimating the shearing strength of these beams, although it is suggested as a viable procedure by many otherwise excellent codes of practice worldwide. This paper should help to put the record straight. It should warn the practitioner against the general inadequacy of such a method and prompt the drafters of structural concrete codes of practice into acting to eliminate this erroneous though persisting designing procedure.

Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System Models for Predicting the Shear Strength of Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams

A reinforced concrete member in which the total span or shear span is especially small in relation to its depth is called a deep beam. In this study, a new approach based on the Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is used to predict the shear strength of reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams. A constitutive relationship was obtained correlating the ultimate load with seven mechanical a...

Stepwise Regression for shear capacity assessment of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams

The addition of steel fibers into concrete improves the postcracking tensile strength of hardened concrete and hence significantly enhances the shear strength of reinforced concrete reinforced concrete beams. However, developing an accurate model for predicting the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams is a challenging task as there are several parameters such as the co...

Simple Two Variable Refined Theory for Shear Deformable Isotropic Rectangular Beams

In this paper, a displacement-based, variationally consistent, two variable refined theory for shear deformable beams is presented. The beam is assumed to be of linearly elastic, homogeneous, isotropic material and has a uniform rectangular cross-section. In this theory, the beam axial displacement and beam transverse displacement consist of bending components and shearing components. The assum...

INFLUENCE OF FIBER ASPECT RATIO ON SHEAR CAPACITY OF DEEP BEAMS USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK TECHNIQUE

This paper deals with the effect of fiber aspect ratio of steel fibers on shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete deep beams loaded with shear span to depth ratio less than two using the artificial neural network technique. The network model predicts reasonably good results when compared with the equation proposed by previous researchers. The parametric study invol...

Effects of Transverse and Longitudinal Steel Ratios and Shear Span on the Behavior of RC Beams under Shear Using Modified Compression Field Theory

Although studies on RC beams under shear have a history record of more than 100 years, many important issues in this context still remain that have evaded attention. The aim of the current study is to study a number of these less investigated aspects of the behavior of RC beams under shear. For this purpose, and based on the modified compression field theory, a computer program has been writte...
